Earlier this week, GRAMMY.com launched a poll asking us who will be nominated for the 57th GRAMMY Awards this coming Friday, December 5th. You can cast your vote here.
The poll features six former GRAMMY winners: Justin Timberlake, Miranda Lambert, Shakira, Pharrell Williams, Taylor Swift, and Jack White. Are they giving us a hint on who will get the most nominations? For now, let’s take a look at the odds for these artists:
Justin Timberlake: Two of his singles have been submitted for Record of the Year: “Not A Bad Thing” and “Love Never Felt So Good” featuring Michael Jackson. Neither of them seem to have big chances in the general field. However, they are darkhorses in the Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance respectively.
Miranda Lambert: She is definitely the strongest contender in the country field. Her album Platinum is also a darkhorse for Album of the Year and “Automatic” have some chances of receiving a nod for Song of the Year.
Shakira: Her fourth English-language album —and tenth overall, was submitted for Album of the Year and Best Pop Album, but she does not seem to be a strong contender. Her better chances are in the Best Pop Duo/Group category for “Can’t Remember to Forget You” with Rihanna. Her collaboration with Blake Shelton “Medicine” was submitted for Best Country Duo/Group performance. Will she be the first Latina to get a Country nod?
Pharrell Williams: Williams could definitely be one of the most nominated artists of the year. He is a strong contender in the general field and he also has submissions for the pop, R&B, and rap fields. He might also receive another nod for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, which he won last year.
Taylor Swift: As her brand new album 1989 was released after the deadline, Swift’s only submissions is her single “Shake It Off”, one of the sure bets for Record of the Year and also a contender in the Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance awards.
Jack White: Just like Williams, White could be looking at getting 4-6 nods this year. His album Lazaretto is a shoo-in for Album of the Year and Best Alternative Music Album. The single “Lazaretto”, is really strong in the rock field but don’t be surprised if it also shows up in the Record and Song of the Year awards.
