ABOUT THE SINGER
Julieta Rada (b. May 25, 1990 in Buenos Aires) is a singer/songwriter. She is the daughter of the influential Afro-Uruguayan musician, Rubén Rada. She started her music career at a young age performing with her father and siblings. In 2012, she released her first album Afrozen. In 2015, she was nominated for the Latin GRAMMY for Best New Artist. Rada recently released her sophomore album, Corazn Diamante [Diamond Heart].
ABOUT THE SONG
“Dombe” [an onomatopoeic sound, the beat of the Candombe drums] is an ethnic-pop song influenced by Candombe, R&B, and Latin jazz. Candombe is a traditional form of Uruguayan music influenced by Bantu African music. In the song, Julieta describes how everytime she is with her lover, a candombe party breaks out in the neighbourhood and they are both drawn by the rhythm.
