The nominations for the 43rd Annual JUNO Awards have just been revealed. Arcade Fire scored six nominations including Album of the Year and Alternative Album of the Year for Reflektor. This is even one more nod than the five they got from their masterpiece and GRAMMY-Award winning, The Suburbs. The Montreal ensemble is also up for Group of the Year, a category they previously won in 2008 and 2011, they are also up for Songwriter of the Year and, for the very first time, to the JUNO Fan Choice Award. The song “Reflektor” received a nod for Single of the Year. Continue reading “Arcade Fire tops JUNO Awards Nominations with six”→

The nominees for the 86th Academy Awards had just been announced in Hollywood. Just for the record Alfonso Cuaron’s outer-space odyssey Gravity and the FBI-related crime/dramedy film by David O. Russel, American Hustle, received the most nominations with ten. However, at the Oscars, not only actors and filmmakers get nominated. Musicians as well in the categories for Best Original Song and Best Original Score.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences released tonight the list of eligible songs for the Best Original Song category for next year’s Oscars. The 86th edition of the awards will take place on Sunday, March 2nd at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. The nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 16th at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles.
A total of seventy-five songs will compete for the five available spots in the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The award goes to the songwriter. And in order to be eligible, a song must contain both lyrics and music, be specifically written for the film, and being played during the movie or at the beginning of the final credits. Furthermore, only two songs per film may get nominated.
The nominations for the 71st Golden Globe Awards were announced earlier this morning. The Golden Globes are presented by the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. They honour the best in American cinema and television during the year. They also award the best music in film within two of its categories: The Best Original Score – Motion Picture and Best Original Song – Motion Picture. In the end, music has always been an integral part of films.
The Golden Globes have long been considered as a prelude to the Oscars -or the Academy Awards, in fact America’s most prestigious award-. Therefore it is important to take a look at this year’s nominees in the music field. And what are their odds for their Oscar counterparts.
After much debate and against all odds (but Twitter) Taylor Swift took home Artist of the Year award. Before the show, I bet on Justin Timberlake taking the prize. But after I saw Florida Georgia Line winning Single of the Year. I found out that country music lovers really have a big say on this award’s show. And that combined to the “Swifties” army made Taylor win this award for the third time. She received a total of four awards, more than any other artist. In fact, she only lost one award: Pop/Rock Album to One Direction -who also won Pop/Rock Duo/Group.
In a year of rappers and country singers supporting gay rights. And Miley Cyrus twerking and smoking joints everywhere (Happy Birthday Miley by the way). Nobody had paid the proper attention to Justin Timberlake’s incredible comeback to the music scene.
Justin Timberlake was -in the early 2000s- the equivalent of what (another Justin) Bieber is today for kids. However he is far much more talented and professional, less controversial, and is able to reach a wider audience that doesn’t stick to underage teens or pop music fans. And despite odds say otherwise but for all the right reasons (above) this can be Justin’s year at the American Music Awards, to take place tomorrow (November 24th) at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.
